December 9, 2011 the game world heard news about closing down the acclaimed Ukrainian game studio GSC Game World.
Works on the long-awaited game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 were suddenly stopped.
The news became a shocking surprise both for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game fans, so as for the developers themselves.
The team of developers to have worked on the game for several years on could not just surrender.
They decided to unite and continue the development, no matter what.
Veterans of Ukrainian game industry to have worked on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 game are already working on the new future.

— Hi everebody! Today we start our series of development video diaries from Vostok Games studio. We are going to inform you all about our events, share the news on our project and just open up our hearts. So, welcome in!

— When Grygorovich announced the company closure, i spend about five minutes hopping it’s all a joke, but it turns out everything unbelievable.
Ruslan Didenko (Team lead)
— If we are put in the situation when we need to change in order to survive, we have to obey to the change. We realized that the world around is changing. We must save the team.
— I clearly understood that my place is here, among these people, in this team.
— We have not yet said our final word in the post-apocalyptic genre.
— We are very deep in this topic and can feel it really well. This team is the one who can deliver this project.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series always carried an ecologycal context and was a kind of warning game. We had a lot of ideas that we wanted fans to see. It was a logycal decision to look for investors.
— We managed to find partners, we concluded agreement with a venture capital company here in Ukraine and we continue working.
— When it became clear that we cannot continue with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, that we cannot find agreement, a credit should be given to our investor who said, well guys, it’s all sad, but we believe in you — tell ua what you can do and say without the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand.
We mulled it over and came back with an idea that the post-apocalyptic game genre is not only about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. word.
The natural way out of the situation was going online, i.e. an attempt to make an online game, an attempt to make it free of charge.
That is to allow as many players as possible to play it and make a decision for themselves whether this game is worth investing money into or no.
— The game concept has changed, and now it’s an online project.
— The very idea of an online game, an online shooter, which should be closer to the players and develop more dynamically allows us to expand the borders. We may no longer focus on one single territiry, but make a more international kind of game. This said, of course, the idea of our local post-Soviet envirinment, is something still very close and dear to us.

Dmitry Yasenev ( Programer’s lead)
— The new game is first of all another ganre, it’s an online shooter, which is already challenging by itself, since we previously had never developed such a game.
— Wnen S.T.A.L.K.E.R. originated, our heads were preoccupied with one anthropogenic catastrophe — the Chernobyl NPP accident.
But since that time, there happened many others — oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the recent eventa at Fukushima.
We really fear that sooner or later the Earth will give us all a guud knockback. That idea started to float around and resounded in our heads to finally give birth to a new concept.
— We are talking about a new world at the time of apocalypse, it’s a post-Soviet environment, maybe wider.
— S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series generally is made in its own concept and it gave the game a new life, while at the same time limiting it. Now we can remote those limitation.

-And take a more global look at the world, as if Chernobyl would spread out, for example.
— The topic of mankind who survive, but in totally new conditions, very dangerous ones, where death is arround, where mutants, factions, where are some mysterious goals, where is something like the Zone, explored by the well-known stalkers.
— We saw that in that context we can say both what we wanted at the time of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, so as the new ideas which did not quite fit in to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
— The new game concept allows us to speak to you more openly and demonstrate you our achievements.
Stage by stage we will be actively involving the gaming community, we will be communicating, posting regular updates.
We will be informing you in these video diaries about what we do, how we do it and we are really hopefull to receive you support and assistance. It is extremely important for us.
— We intend to establish a very open dialogue, up to the point of posting the list of ideas we are considering, so that fans could influence it telling us what would be more interesting for them.
— This project is going to be of very high level as we took the lesson with our previoua project experience, we managed to save the team.
— We are making a world-class game, and with your help, with your ideas and feedback we ready are going to deliver a project of extra class.
The good old atmosphere of post-apocalypse is no longer resistained by the ZONE borders. And now the entire world will discover it.
The game just begins!
